Us: Places & Things Family & Friends: Work
Germany - June 2002

We went on an extended visit to see Arbens family in Stuttgart Germany. It was nice to see where he grew up and finally meet his family. Most our days were spent sleeping-in, hanging out with his mom and eating too much. We went on a few mini-trips during our stay. Slovenia, Hamburg (in Northern Germany), a few castles, a cave, and some other misc places...
Stuttgart
has about 500,000 people and doesnt 'feel' too big. Its comprised of many small 'towns' each with all the essentials for a small self contained community (typical throughout most of Europe) . You dont need to leave your town nor drive to get all the necessities. Vastly different from what I've seen throughout the US where everyone drives to the centers and lives in the suburbs without much more than a 7-11 or a strip mall in their local neighborhood (hard to say which is better).

a Cave
Went with Arben and his mom, dad and sister to a 'cave' near by. There were these strange formations (not sure what exactly they're called) throughout the cave.

a Castle
There are tons of castles everywhere in Germany. More so that I expected. Apparently Germany used to be comprised of hundreds of 'kingdoms'. And of course each kingdom needs a king and a castle... so there are many. More so than other countries I've visited.
